Her story is a reminder to women everywhere: you don’t have to live in fear, and you have the power to rise.

Growing up in Tijuana amid family hardship, social pressure, and difficult circumstances, Carime found in boxing a way to rebuild herself. Today, her story inspires youth and women to face fear, build discipline, and take control of their future.

SAN DIEGO, Calif.

Antes de los títulos. | Before the Titles.

Before the titles. Before the victories. Before anyone was watching. There was a young woman in Tijuana, Baja California, learning, often on her own, how to face pressure, uncertainty, and moments that could have completely stopped her. It was not a story of comfort. It was a story of endurance.

As the oldest of three siblings, Carime grew up in an environment shaped by family and economic hardship from a young age. While her parents worked long hours, she took on responsibilities that forced her to mature early. That kind of environment does not just build character. It accelerates it, tests it, and makes it clear that every decision matters.

El inicio del fuego | Where the Fire Begins

For Carime, adversity was not temporary. It was part of her environment. Bullying, social pressure, and difficult personal experiences were not isolated moments, but part of growing up. These situations can cause someone to shut down, doubt themselves, or stop trying.

In her case, they did the opposite.

They created a need to change her reality.

Boxing did not arrive as a dream. It came as a response. A way to protect herself, to regain control, and to stop feeling vulnerable. At first, she even faced hesitation within her family, where boxing was seen as a difficult and risky path.

Still, she chose to continue.

Inside the gym, she found something beyond sport. She found structure, discipline, and a way to channel everything she carried. Fear did not disappear overnight, but it stopped being in control.

“My own life story, the obstacles I went through and the circumstances that for a moment tried to stop me.”
— Alejandra Carime Arriaga Ramirez

La parte invisible del éxito | The Invisible Side of Success

At sixteen, life demanded more. Carime became independent and began working while continuing to train. She sold food, worked in markets, and also worked security jobs. It was not just physical effort. It was a full mental, emotional, and financial load.

Boxing requires sacrifice. It requires time, resources, and consistency. Every day demanded a clear decision: keep going or give up. And again and again, she chose to keep going.

Cuando todo pudo terminar | When Everything Could Have Ended

The path was not perfect. There were moments of violence that forced her to step away from boxing temporarily. Moments where everything could have ended. But it did not end that way.

Because what she had built within herself no longer depended on her environment. Discipline, resilience, and self-confidence had become her foundation.

Resultados que cuentan la historia | Results That Tell the Story

What you see in the ring is only part of it. The real story is everything she had to overcome to get there.

“Don’t let your victories go to your head, and don’t let your defeats pierce your heart.”

— Alejandra Carime Arriaga Ramirez

Más allá del deporte: servicio y propósito | Beyond the Sport: Service and Purpose

A no quedarse callados.
A establecer límites.

Today, Carime has turned her story into impact. She works with youth, helping them develop discipline, physical skills, and confidence. But her impact goes beyond the physical.

She teaches them to face bullying.
To speak up.
To set boundaries.
To believe in themselves.

Especially for women, her message is clear and direct. They do not have to live in fear. They do not have to accept less. They can build their own strength and change their story.

“Help children develop their physical skills in the best way and creating discipline and commitment in them.”
— Alejandra Carime Arriaga Ramirez

El significado de levantarse | What It Means to Rise

Impacto.

Carime’s story is not perfect. It is real. It is a story of pressure, decisions, and rebuilding. She did not avoid the fire. She moved through it.

And from that process, she built something greater than herself.

Impact.

Y al final, queda una verdad | And In The End, One Truth Remains

Y Carime no solo tomó esa decisión.

La sigue tomando todos los días.

Because in the end, resilience is not luck. It is a decision made again and again. The decision to rise even when everything suggests you should stay in the ashes.

And Carime did not just make that decision once.

She continues to make it every single day.

Bogdan was born and raised in America's Finest City, San Diego, as a first generation Polish Mexican American, Bogdan grew up shaped by stories of his family rebuilding from the ground up. His family history led him to learn languages, study different cultures, and develop a fascination with geopolitics and how to become a more engaged member of the community. That curiosity evolved into a career centered on diplomacy, conflict transformation, and community social impact and resilience. Bogdan earned his undergraduate degree in International Security and Conflict Resolution, along with minors in Islamic and Arabic Studies and Latin American Studies from San Diego State University before receiving a Fulbright Grant from the U.S. Department of State to teach and develop community initiatives in Spain. He was later selected and awarded a Rotary Peace Fellowship and learned and conducted field studies in Asia. His travels to over 60 countries, including places where most people shy away, have brought him face to face with the realities of conflict and post conflict recovery. From the chaos of war zones and post conflict environments to the heart of diverse cultures, he has listened to personal stories of hardship, healing, and hope. Those experiences deepened his understanding of resiliency, peacebuilding, and the art of restoring trust in fractured communities. Bogdan is the Founder of iSERVE, International Service Education Research Vision Empowerment, www.iserveinternational.com. Through iSERVE, he supports students and professionals pursuing scholarships, fellowships, university admissions, grants, and international opportunities. He teaches diplomacy skills, international project development, and the craft of designing competitive applications rooted in preparation and authenticity. He has organized educational initiatives in the United States, Mexico, Egypt, Syria, Spain, Indonesia, Afghanistan, and online for participants around the world. Bogdan has supported cross sector violence prevention conversations and projects, contributed to disaster and housing relief during the 2024 San Diego flood response, and in 2025 was appointed to the City of Chula Vista Homelessness and Housing Commission . He serves as Peace Chair of the San Diego Coastal Rotary Club and contributes to regional mental health initiatives. He is also an Ambassador for the Institute of Economics and Peace. An internationally recognized award recipient, including The President’s Lifetime Achievement Award and Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellow distinction for merit, Bogdan remains committed to service to others. Having once navigated complex systems without clear guidance himself, he is passionate about helping others access opportunities they may not see as possible. He is a connector and educator who bridges stakeholders across sectors to advance peacebuilding, community safety, and conflict transformation. He brings together volunteers, educators, civic leaders, business professionals, and international partners to design solutions that make communities safer and more resilient.
