Across Africa, local nonprofits and grassroots organizations are creating meaningful change through education, workforce development, climate resilience, and community-led programs. However, many organizations still face challenges accessing global funding, visibility, and trusted donor networks.
For international donors, investing in nonprofits across Africa can also feel difficult to navigate. Questions around transparency, accountability, and verification often create hesitation, especially when smaller organizations lack the resources or visibility to connect with global supporters.
That challenge inspired Give to Africa, a San Diego-based nonprofit founded by Victoria M. Philips. Through philanthropy, technology, and innovation, the organization helps connect donors to trusted African communities while supporting local nonprofits with funding access, partnerships, and strategic support.
“What inspired me was seeing communities full of talent, resilience, and solutions, yet too often overlooked by traditional funding systems,” Philips said. “The issue was never a lack of ideas. It was a lack of access, visibility, and trust.”
A Mission Rooted in Community-Led Impact
With more than 20 years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit leadership, and community engagement, Philips built Give to Africa around one core belief: the people closest to the challenges often hold the best solutions.
The organization supports community-led initiatives in areas such as climate resilience, education, workforce development, and sustainable livelihoods. It also works to strengthen local nonprofits through fundraising support, partnerships, fiscal sponsorship, and increased visibility.
Using Technology to Increase Trust
One of Give to Africa’s most innovative initiatives is YENDAA, a digital platform designed to help donors discover and support verified African nonprofits with greater transparency and trust.
“Giving should be transparent, accessible, and rooted in dignity,” Philips said. “That is the future we are building through Give to Africa and YENDAA.”
The platform was created to help solve a growing issue within global philanthropy. Many African nonprofits are doing impactful work but often struggle to access international donor networks because of limited infrastructure, technology, or visibility. YENDAA helps bridge that gap by making giving more accessible and community-centered.
Growing Partnerships Across Africa
Give to Africa has already supported more than 20 projects across Africa while building partnerships with local organizations, educators, government agencies, and community leaders. Recent collaborations have included climate resilience initiatives in multiple African countries and development partnerships with MDF Ghana focused on sustainable livelihoods and economic growth.
What makes Give to Africa unique is its commitment to dignity, collaboration, and long-term sustainability. Rather than focusing on deficit-based narratives, the organization highlights innovation, leadership, and local impact throughout Africa.
“At the heart of my work is a simple belief: people should not be overlooked because they were born far from wealth or power,” Philips said.
Looking Toward the Future
Today, Give to Africa continues working to become a trusted bridge between global generosity and local impact. Its mission is to help communities become stronger, more self-sustaining, and equipped to shape their own future.
“Africa is full of innovation, resilience, and leadership,” Philips said. “We are here to help that brilliance be seen, supported, and funded.”
