San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) has taken a significant step toward advancing literacy in the community by donating more than 10,269 books to the San Diego County Library through its second annual Lift Up Literacy campaign. This partnership highlights SDCCU’s unwavering commitment to improving access to reading materials while fostering opportunities for personal and educational development throughout the region.

A Community-Driven Initiative

The Lift Up Literacy campaign has become a hallmark of SDCCU’s community engagement efforts, showcasing the transformative power of collaboration. By teaming up with the San Diego County Library, SDCCU encouraged individuals and families across the county to donate new and gently used books at its branch locations. The overwhelming response underscores the community’s shared dedication to breaking down barriers to quality reading resources and promoting literacy for all.

“We are deeply grateful for the incredible generosity shown by our community in making this year’s Lift Up Literacy campaign a resounding success,” said Teresa Campbell, President and CEO of SDCCU. “This initiative highlights the remarkable impact we can achieve when we unite for a shared purpose. Literacy is a cornerstone of opportunity, and we are proud to help illuminate a brighter path for individuals and families in our community.”

Making an Impact Where It Matters Most

The donated books will benefit the San Diego County Library’s network of 33 branches as well as its Free Little Libraries. These innovative, honor-based book exchange stations are strategically located in underserved areas to address challenges such as limited transportation, financial constraints, or lack of digital access. For many residents, these libraries serve as vital hubs of knowledge, connection, and empowerment.

“This extraordinary donation directly aligns with the San Diego County Library’s mission to foster opportunities through literacy, serving as a beacon for our community’s progress,” said Migell Acosta, Library Director. “We are profoundly grateful for SDCCU’s exceptional generosity. Together, we are strengthening the pillars of education and empowerment, creating opportunities that will transform countless lives.”

Why Literacy Matters

Literacy extends beyond the ability to read; it is a vital tool for achieving personal and professional success. In an increasingly information-driven world, individuals with strong literacy skills are better positioned to seize opportunities, navigate challenges, and thrive. Yet, in many communities, barriers such as economic disparities and lack of access to resources continue to hinder literacy development.

By addressing these issues directly, SDCCU’s Lift Up Literacy campaign conveys a powerful message: everyone deserves the opportunity to grow through reading. This initiative not only delivers essential resources but also sparks meaningful conversations about equitable access to education and the transformative power of literacy.

Looking to the Future

SDCCU’s commitment to the community extends far beyond this campaign. With each successful initiative, the organization strengthens its role as a trusted partner and advocate for meaningful change. By aligning its corporate goals with the needs of San Diego County residents, SDCCU continues to exemplify the profound impact of corporate responsibility.

As literacy opens doors to brighter futures, SDCCU invites everyone to join the movement. Whether by donating books, volunteering, or encouraging a love of reading, small actions can collectively lead to monumental change.
