SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Every four years, the world comes together for one of the greatest sporting events on the planet, the FIFA World Cup. It is a tournament where the best players, the strongest national teams, and millions of passionate fans unite for one common purpose. For one incredible month, the world seems to pause as countries compete for the most prestigious trophy in soccer.

Names like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and countless other world-class athletes have become household names because of their extraordinary talent. Throughout the year, these players compete in some of the biggest professional leagues across England, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, North America, and many other countries. They dedicate their entire lives to mastering their craft, all with the dream of representing their country on soccer’s biggest stage.

DREAMING BIG

Imagine being a young kid with nothing more than a soccer ball and a dream. Every afternoon after school you practice in the park, imagining thousands of fans cheering your name while you wear your country’s jersey. For most children, it remains a dream. For a select few, years of sacrifice, discipline, determination, and perseverance eventually earn them the opportunity to play in the FIFA World Cup. Every player has a unique story of overcoming challenges, setbacks, injuries, and adversity to reach that moment. That is what makes the World Cup so inspiring. It is not simply about winning matches. It is about the journey that brought every player there.

The FIFA World Cup began in 1930 and has become one of the most watched sporting events in history. Every tournament creates unforgettable memories that are shared across generations. Recent host countries have included South Africa in 2010, Brazil in 2014, Russia in 2018, and Qatar in 2022. In 2026, history was made once again as the tournament came to North America, with the United States, Mexico, and Canada serving as co-hosts. For soccer fans across this continent, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness history close to home.

MY FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE

I was fortunate enough to attend my very first FIFA World Cup match on June 15, 2026, at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles. Walking toward the stadium felt surreal. Thousands upon thousands of fans filled every street wearing jerseys from all over the world. Some represented the countries playing that day, while others proudly wore the colors of their favorite national teams simply because they wanted to be part of the celebration.

The atmosphere was unlike anything I have ever experienced. More than 70,000 fans packed the stadium as Iran faced New Zealand in an unforgettable match that ended in a thrilling 2 to 2 draw. Before kickoff, people were dancing outside the stadium, enjoying live music, taking photos, exchanging scarves, and meeting complete strangers who instantly became friends because of their shared love of soccer.

Inside the stadium, every chant echoed throughout the stands. Every goal created an explosion of emotion. Every save was met with thunderous applause. It did not matter where someone came from or what language they spoke. Everyone understood the universal language of the game.

Outside the matches, the World Cup created experiences that were just as memorable. Fans explored local restaurants, visited landmarks, attended fan festivals, and embraced cultures different from their own. Social media became filled with videos of visitors from Japan trying classic American food for the first time, families from Europe exploring Los Angeles, and supporters from South America dancing alongside fans from Africa and Asia. It felt like the entire world had become one giant neighborhood.

ONE WORLD, ONE PASSION

As I write this article, the tournament is nearing its conclusion, and honestly, it is difficult knowing that it will soon be over. While the games have been spectacular, what impacted me the most was witnessing people from every corner of the world coming together peacefully.

Too often we only hear negative stories about countries around the world. News headlines focus on conflict, danger, politics, or division. Rarely do we hear about the kindness of ordinary people, the beauty of different cultures, or the friendships that can be formed despite our differences. The World Cup reminded me that behind every flag is a community of people who simply want to live, laugh, celebrate, and create lasting memories with those they love.

One of my greatest passions in life has always been bringing people together. I believe we grow the most when we learn from one another and appreciate our differences instead of fearing them. The moment I walked into Sofi Stadium, I felt that belief come to life. Every section of the stadium was filled with joy, excitement, and respect. It did not matter who you supported. Everyone shared the same appreciation for being part of something truly special.

One of my favorite memories from the match was meeting a fan named James. During our conversation, he shared that he had grown up playing soccer as a kid but eventually drifted away from the sport. Being at the World Cup reminded him why he fell in love with soccer in the first place. Before we left the stadium, he told me he planned to start playing again. That conversation reminded me that sports have the power to reconnect us with parts of ourselves we may have forgotten.

I also had the opportunity to meet many passionate Iranian supporters during the match. Although I was wearing a Mexico jersey, I found myself cheering alongside fans from Iran, the United States, New Zealand, and many other countries. Despite the challenges surrounding Iran’s participation and the circumstances that required the team to be based in Tijuana during the tournament, their supporters never lost their passion. Although Iran did not advance to the knockout stage, they played with incredible heart, determination, and pride. Watching their fans continue to sing and support their team until the final whistle was one of the most inspiring moments of the entire experience.

That is the beauty of the World Cup. Winning is important, but representing your country with dignity, passion, and resilience often leaves the greatest legacy.

WHAT THE WORLD CUP REALLY MEANS

The FIFA World Cup reminded me that no matter where we come from, what language we speak, what religion we practice, or what culture shaped us, we all share something deeply human. We all want to belong. We all want to celebrate. We all want to experience moments that bring us closer together. There is no place for racism or hatred when people choose understanding, respect, and compassion.

As the tournament comes to an end and teams like France, Argentina, Spain, England, Norway, and many others continue chasing the championship, I know millions of fans will remember the goals, the saves, and the unforgettable moments on the field. For me, however, the greatest memory will always be the people. The conversations, the laughter, the shared excitement, and the reminder that sports have the unique ability to unite the world in ways few other things can.

This was my first FIFA World Cup match, but I truly hope it will not be my last. Whether the next tournament takes me somewhere else in the United States or to another country across the globe, I know I will gladly make the journey again.

Thank you, FIFA, for creating an event that brings humanity together through the beautiful game. Thank you to every fan who traveled across oceans to celebrate with complete strangers who quickly became friends. Most importantly, thank you for reminding all of us that while we may wear different jerseys, wave different flags, and speak different languages, we are all part of one world.

That is the true magic of the FIFA World Cup, and it is an experience I will never forget.
