The Nervous System Is the New Boardroom: How One California Healing Spa Is Rewriting High-Performance Health

How Selah Center in Carlsbad Is Rewriting the Meaning of Recovery

I walked into Selah Center carrying the particular kind of exhaustion that does not show up on any lab report. The kind that hides behind a full calendar, a sharp mind, and a body that keeps performing because stopping is not an option. I walked out lighter. Something had released in me that I had not realized I was holding.

That is not a small thing to say. I have spent more than twenty years running an international healing practice, working with clients across the globe to restore what chronic stress, trauma, and modern life systematically dismantle. I understand the terrain of the body from the inside out. I have covered health, business, and human performance at the highest levels. I do not arrive anywhere ready to be impressed.

Selah Center, tucked along the coast of Carlsbad, California, earned something I do not give easily: my full attention. And then something more. It earned my trust.

When Exhaustion Defies Diagnosis

There is a type of fatigue no amount of sleep can fix. It is a depletion embedded so deeply in the body’s architecture that conventional medicine has no clean diagnostic label for it. It appears in boardrooms and classrooms, in elite athletes and caregivers, among people who by every external measure seem to be thriving. Increasingly, it appears everywhere.

The numbers underscore the scope. Workplace burnout costs the U.S. economy over $300 billion annually, according to the American Institute of Stress. Six in ten American adults live with at least one chronic disease, per the CDC. The World Health Organization now classifies burnout as an occupational phenomenon of clinical significance. What was once framed as a personal failure is increasingly understood as a systemic healthcare gap.

Into this landscape, a new class of integrative health institutions is emerging. Not spas. Not biohacking lounges. Not conventional functional medicine clinics. Something more structurally ambitious. Among the most sophisticated is Selah Center.

Born from Crisis

Selah Center was not conceived in a corporate strategy session. It was born from personal crisis. Founders Sinclair Kennally and Michael Spandel were practitioners who experienced the healthcare system’s limitations firsthand. When their own health deteriorated through a constellation of symptoms that defied clean diagnosis, they initially pushed through, compensating for fatigue and treating depletion as a temporary inconvenience. Until the body refused to cooperate.

Kennally refers to these cases as “mystery patients”: individuals whose lab results appear normal while their quality of life steadily erodes. Chronic stress, environmental toxins, post-viral syndromes, mold-related illness, and deep cellular imbalance often converge to create these elusive conditions. Rather than returning to practice unchanged, Kennally and Spandel undertook what amounted to a second graduate education in root-cause medicine. The result was Selah Center, designed to bridge the divide between allopathic medicine and natural wellness.

“There is a major divide between conventional medicine and natural wellness, and people fall through the cracks every single day.” — Sinclair Kennally, Co-Founder, Selah Center

A First-Hand Encounter

I came to Selah curious and professionally skeptical, which is the only honest way to arrive. What I found was a place that understood the body not as a collection of isolated problems to be solved, but as an interconnected system that responds to environment, relationship, and intention.

I began with ShiftWave Therapy, a modality designed to release what the body stores when the mind has moved on. There is no other way to describe it: within minutes, something began to settle in me. Not relaxation in the surface sense. Something far beneath it. A rearrangement at the cellular level.

Then came the Lucia Light. I will not pretend I fully anticipated what it would do. The Lucia No. 03 hypnagogic light system works at the intersection of science and inner experience, guiding the brain into states of deep coherence through structured light frequencies. I closed my eyes. What appeared behind them was vivid, geometric, and deeply quiet. Time dissolved. When I returned, I was not the same person who had closed her eyes.

Lymphatic drainage followed, and I understood why in a way I had not before. The body does not only process food and oxygen. It processes stress, grief, and the accumulated weight of years of overextension. After everything that had already moved through me that day, the lymphatic work felt like the body quietly completing what had been started. Integration, not addition.

I returned to ShiftWave at the end. The same technology. The same room. But I was not the same person who had started there. What had felt like settling at the beginning now felt like landing. Somewhere in the hours between, I had come home to something I had not realized I had lost.

Physics I Could Feel

The most profound shift came from Biofield Frequency Enhancement using the Theraphi, a plasma field generator grounded in electromagnetic frequency science. I did not know what to expect walking in. What I found was physics. As someone who has always been drawn to the science beneath the surface, I felt immediately at home.

The Theraphi works with plasma, the ionized fourth state of matter, to reintroduce structured electromagnetic input that supports the body’s own regulatory capacity. Modern life systematically strips us of what the body was built to receive: sunlight, atmospheric charge, moving water, grounded earth. The Theraphi reintroduces those inputs with intention and precision.

I could feel the magnetic waves moving around my body. I have studied energy and frequency for twenty years. Nothing quite prepares you for the moment your own body becomes the proof.

I set an intention before the session began. I knew what I wanted to release, even if I could not fully name it yet. What I did not expect was what came at the end: a clear vision of exactly what had been blocking me, and then the unmistakable physical sensation of it leaving. It swooshed off of me. Twenty years of working with energy and the body, and I still was not prepared for how literal it would be.

Peer-reviewed research supports electromagnetic effects on tissue repair, inflammation, and cellular healing. Selah’s differentiator is integrating this technology into supervised, protocol-driven care rather than offering it as an experimental add-on. The experience is held. That matters more than most people realize until they feel the difference.

Designed for Recovery

Selah Center’s facility is organized around two complementary clinical wings. The first, called the Healing Grotto, is a restorative environment built on the principle that regulation precedes repair. Here, therapy stacking sequences multiple modalities in a single visit to amplify the body’s healing response. Technologies include ShiftWave Therapy, Sound of Soul Therapy (with fewer than twenty units installed across the United States), singlet oxygen therapy, and advanced diagnostic scanning that assesses the body’s internal terrain rather than isolated biomarkers.

The Clinical Wing focuses on interventional depth: IV nutrient infusions, personalized diagnostic workups, customized protocols, and EBOO ozone blood therapy. This wing addresses complex conditions that most wellness facilities are structurally unequipped to manage.

Access is structured across three tiers. Concierge Naturopathic Care offers high-touch individualized protocols for chronic illness, hormonal imbalance, post-mold recovery, gut dysfunction, and long-term resilience building. In-Clinic Healing Circuits deliver single or multi-day therapy-stacking sessions designed for acute flares, cognitive fatigue, anxiety, or burnout. Private Three-Day Immersive Retreats combine advanced therapies, trauma release, and guided healing sequences, tailored for executives, athletes, and high-demand individuals who cannot commit to long-term weekly treatment.
