In a recent memo released following the Republican National Convention, the Biden campaign reaffirmed President Joe Biden’s intention to be the Democratic nominee for the 2024 election. Despite internal party disputes regarding future strategies, the memo emphasized Biden’s unwavering commitment to the race. Dan Kanninen, the campaign’s battleground states director, explicitly stated that Biden remains the presumptive nominee with no plans for an alternative candidate.

As the campaign gears up for the Democratic National Convention, Kanninen stressed the importance of party unity. Joe Biden has stated unequivocally: he’s committed to winning this race. It’s time we stop fighting each other,” Kanninen wrote. “The only person who benefits from our fighting is Donald Trump.” He acknowledged that concerns about Biden’s age persist among voters but argued that it has not significantly impacted their support for the President.
The memo also took aim at Project 2025, a policy agenda organized by the Heritage Foundation with contributors linked to the Trump administration. Although Donald Trump has distanced himself from Project 2025, calling it a “pain in the a–,” the Biden campaign highlighted the potential consequences of its implementation. Kanninen pointed out that Project 2025 envisions fewer rights, higher costs, and diminished opportunities for the middle class, encapsulating a vision contrary to Biden’s platform.

The memo also underscored the presence of Thomas Homan, former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director and architect of the family separation policy, at the RNC. Homan’s association with Project 2025 was highlighted as indicative of the harsh policies it proposes. Kanninen criticized the RNC’s messaging, particularly around mass deportations and Vance’s speech, which he claimed promised nothing substantial for the American people while attacking women’s reproductive rights and the Affordable Care Act.
In terms of campaign strategy, the memo revealed that Biden’s team is intensifying efforts in key battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, and Michigan, where polls show Biden either tied with or trailing Trump. This focus on crucial states demonstrates the campaign’s tactical approach to securing electoral victory.
The memo’s release comes amid calls from some high-profile Democrats for Biden to withdraw from the race. Most notably, Senator John Tester (D-Mont.) joined the chorus of voices expressing doubts about Biden’s candidacy. Despite these challenges, the President and his campaign team remain steadfast, preparing to solidify Biden’s nomination at the upcoming Democratic National Convention. The memo underscores a clear message: the Biden campaign is determined to stay the course and secure a second term for the President.
